Un Hôtel de charme 4 étoiles

Le Pavillon des Lys was where we stayed for the longer portion of our travels through France, and after reading a few reviews beforehand, we were honestly a little nervous. We ended up having a wonderful stay and would absolutely recommend this hotel!

We were traveling by rental car, and I will say the entrance to the hotel is VERY tight, even with our compact car! However, having convenient private parking right at the hotel was a huge plus. The parking area is gravel, but we had no trouble getting our suitcases from the car to our room. Pulling back out onto the street can also be a little challenging at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s completely manageable.

From the moment we arrived, we felt incredibly welcome. Olivier, who greeted us, was by far one of the most welcoming people we encountered during our stays throughout France.We do not speak fluent French, and he communicated with us easily in English, chatted with us about our travels, and gave us plenty of recommendations for the area. He personally walked us to our room and made us feel right at home.

We stayed in one of the separate garden suites, and it was perfect, very spacious, with a comfortable bed and a great hot shower. Our room had its own private entrance with a beautiful jasmine bush growing beside it, and the smell was AMAZING! The grounds and courtyard are absolutely beautiful and incredibly peaceful. They’re so charming that we even noticed tourists occasionally stopping to peek inside!

Breakfast was very good, the coffee was limitless, and the staff was always accommodating. Compared with some of the other hotel breakfasts we had during our trip, the selection was a little more limited, but there was still plenty to choose from and more than enough to fuel us before a full day of sightseeing.

A couple of helpful notes for future guests: Wi-Fi was very spotty during our stay and barely worked in our separate garden suite. For us, it actually ended up being a blessing because it forced us to unplug and enjoy our vacation! However, I think it’s important to mention for anyone who needs dependable Wi-Fi for work or other reasons, the separate guest house had almost no reliable Wi-Fi/service during our stay.

Also, there are quite a few mosquitoes and spiders around the garden rooms. When we first arrived, there were more mosquitoes in our room than I could count, along with a few spiders. Once we realized this, we simply kept the windows closed and made sure to quickly close the door when entering and leaving, and that *mostly, solved the problem for us.

The location is fantastic. You can easily walk to Château d’Amboise and many of the area's attractions, shops, and restaurants, and you can actually see the hotel when looking down from the château! There are tons of delicious restaurants just a short walk away.

You cannot eat in the guest rooms, but this really wasn't an issue because there is plenty of seating in the beautiful, peaceful courtyard, which is a lovely place to sit and enjoy something outside.

Overall, 10/10 stay.Beautiful grounds, comfortable accommodations, an excellent central location, convenient parking, and especially warm hospitality. Le Pavillon des Lys ended up being the perfect home base for the longer portion of our Loire Valley trip, and we would happily stay here again!

A lovely hotel located in the heart of Amboise, just steps away from all the attractions. We were warmly welcomed by the receptionist, who was very knowledgeable about the area. We had an excellent stay; the room was very comfortable and clean. One piece of advice: they urgently need to install a safe so guests can store documents and money, rather than having to carry them around and risk losing them. I would definitely return.

Das klimatisierte Zimmer und das Bad unseres Zimmers haben uns sehr gefallen. Dieses Hotel hatten wir extra wegen der Ladestation für unser Elektroauto auf unserer Durchreise ausgewählt und uns wurde per E-Mail zugesagt für „5€ daily rate“ unser Fahrzeug laden zu können. Vor Ort wurden uns 5€/Stunde berechnet! Bei Zusagen also vorsichtig sein! Deshalb ein Stern Abzug, da unsere Reiseplanung etwas durcheinander geriet.

The main building is very beautiful and looks just as it does in the photos, and the location is excellent. However, the small room cannot, in my opinion, be considered a room of a four-star hotel.

It is true that the hotel clearly states that this room is located outside the main building, and the room itself has been properly fitted out. However, what has essentially been converted into a guest room appears to be a small storage room or annex attached to the side of the main house.

There is only a small door in the corner and no windows. Unfortunately, the entrance was right next to some bushes that were full of thousands of mosquitoes. Of course, I understand that the hotel cannot be held responsible for a mosquito infestation, but in practice it meant that we had to enter and leave the room as quickly as possible to prevent mosquitoes from getting inside.

The worst issue, however, was the very strong smell of damp inside the room, made worse by the fact that there were no windows and therefore no possibility of airing it naturally.

In summary, this is a beautiful four-star hotel in an excellent location, but this particular room is simply not acceptable for a hotel of this category. Unfortunately, when I booked, it was the only room available.

I would recommend the hotel itself, but I would avoid the small room at all costs.

Location can't be beat and the rooms are really nice. I highly recommend the terrace room. The staff are wildly helpful as well including a pharmacy emergency during a bank holiday. Would gladly stay again
